태양의 열린 자기력선
Magnetic fields from coronal holes extend far away from the Sun, and thus they are identified as regions with open magnetic fields. Plasma flowing upward through the corona can more easily escape into space along the open field lines as solar wind. This escaping plasma produces faster flowing solar wind than at other locations of the Sun. The open field directions at the ecliptic plane, which is defined as the imaginary plane containing the Earth's orbit around the Sun, determine the interplanetary field polarities observed at the Earth.
코로나홀의 자기장은 태양으로부터 멀리까지 뻗어나가 열린 자기장이라고 부르곤 합니다. 태양의 코로나에서 위쪽으로 향하는 태양풍 플라즈마 입자들은 열린 자기력선을 따라 우주 공간으로 더 쉽게 탈출할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 탈출한 플라즈마 입자는 다른 곳에서 나오는 태양풍보다 속도가 빠릅니다. 그리고 지구에서 관찰되는 행성간 자기장의 극성은 태양 주위를 공전하는 지구의 공전 궤도 평면(황도면)에 대응되는 열린 자기장에 의해 결정됩니다.

As the Sun rotates, interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) bends into a spiral structure known as the Parker spiral. The IMF is a part of solar magnetic field that is dragged out from the solar corona by the solar wind flow fill the Solar System. At Earth's orbit, the angle between the field lines and radial is about 45 degrees for a typical solar wind speed of 400 km/s and decreases (becomes more radial) at a higher flow speed.
태양의 자전으로 행성간 자기장은 파커 나선이라고 불리는 나선 형태로 휘어집니다. 행성간 자기장은 태양계를 가득 채우고 있는 태양풍의 흐름에 의해 태양의 코로나로부터 바깥 방향으로 끌려나온 태양 자기장의 한 부분입니다. 지구 궤도에서 자기력선의 각도는 일반적인 태양풍 속도 400 km/s에서 45도 정도로 들어오며, 그 각도는 태양풍 속도가 빠를수록 방사형에 가깝게 더 작아집니다.
